Let Journals Search for You

Journal alerts

With journal alert services, you'll never miss the latest issues of journals that are important to your research. Most major publishers, university presses, individual journals, booksellers, and many database vendors will send updates to your inbox or RSS feed when new content is published that matches your interests.

For example, at major publisher Taylor and Francis, you can sign up for alerts for new issues of journals and upcoming books. Want to cast a wide net? Ask to receive alerts for any published material in a certain subject area. You can also sign up for alerts when certain publications (yours?) are cited.

If you're not interested in an entire publisher's output or an entire subject area, just subscribe by individual journal at that journal's homepage. Look for links like "Table of contents alerting," like the one at the Journal of Slavic Military Studies.

You can also subscribe to journal alerts through database vendors, which aggregate content from publishers. This way, you can receive alerts for content from many publishers at the same time.

Search alerts

You can also sign up for alerts from database vendors when new content is available. At Ebsco, for instance, you can create and save a particular advanced search string. Ebsco re-tries the search at regular intervals, and sends an update to you when the search returns new results. Click here to find out how to set up search alerts through Ebsco.
